Vesuvius' eruption in 79 n.e. destroyed the bodies, but left voids in the ashes, repeating their contours. Archaeologists filled them with a cast, recording the positions of the dead. Our goal was not to examine the body’s cast, but to examine the shapes and voids as evidence of disappearance. Unlike the archaeology that fills Vesuvius' victims with a plaster, we note the very absence of the body, «the last moment’s print.» A faceless form excludes a particular victim, leaving only a trace of her disappearance.
