INTRODUCTION

post

SOLUTIONS is an interdisciplinary design brand founded by Russian designer and creative director Gleb Kostin. The project operates beyond the conventional boundaries of fashion and combines clothing, jewellery, furniture, interior objects, digital products and experimental visual design within a single creative ecosystem. Rather than positioning itself as a traditional fashion label, SOLUTIONS functions as a platform for artistic experimentation and problem-solving through design. The brand emerged from Kostin’s desire to create a space for independent creative production and has gradually evolved into a multidisciplinary practice where garments coexist with objects, graphics and conceptual projects. The name «.solutions» reflects the idea of creating responses to cultural, aesthetic and practical questions through design, while maintaining a deliberately depersonalised identity that extends beyond the figure of its founder.

SOLUTIONS operates within the niche of independent contemporary design and appeals to consumers who are interested in alternative fashion, creative culture and experimental aesthetics. Unlike many streetwear brands that focus on trends, logos or seasonal collections, SOLUTIONS emphasises conceptual thinking, contextual design and the creation of complete aesthetic worlds. The brand’s visual language combines references to internet culture, industrial design, contemporary art, digital graphics and everyday functionality. Products are often presented as components of a broader creative system rather than isolated commercial items. Through clothing, accessories and objects, SOLUTIONS encourages consumers to engage with design as a form of cultural participation and personal expression. The brand also maintains a strong connection to creative collaborations and interdisciplinary production, frequently working across different media and creative fields.

The target audience of SOLUTIONS consists primarily of people aged 18–35 who live in large urban centres and actively participate in contemporary creative communities. The audience includes designers, artists, architects, musicians, photographers, fashion enthusiasts and culturally engaged consumers who value originality and intellectual engagement with design. Several audience segments can be identified. The first group, «Creative Practitioners», consists of individuals working in creative industries who view clothing and objects as extensions of their professional and artistic identity. The second group, «Cultural Explorers», seeks products connected to contemporary visual culture and emerging creative movements. The third group, «Independent Collectors», values limited production, unique design approaches and objects with strong conceptual foundations. Finally, the «Aesthetic Experimenters» segment uses fashion and design as tools for self-expression and social distinction. Despite their differences, all audience groups share an interest in creative innovation, interdisciplinary culture and alternative forms of identity construction. For them, SOLUTIONS functions not only as a design brand but also as a cultural platform that reflects a particular worldview and approach to contemporary life.

COMMUNICATION CHANNELS

Instagram is the central communication platform of Solutions. The account functions simultaneously as a portfolio, catalogue and visual storytelling platform.

The platform is used to publish: Product photography Campaign visuals Creative collaborations Event documentation Experimental graphic design Brand storytelling

The visual style relies heavily on webcore aesthetics, internet nostalgia, contemporary graphic design, and conceptual imagery. Content rarely follows conventional fashion marketing standards and instead resembles an online art archive or digital exhibition.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

post

SEMIOTIC THEORY

Semiotic Theory views communication as a process of creating and sharing meaning through systems of signs and symbols. Rather than focusing on the direct transmission of information, semiotics examines how audiences interpret visual and textual elements and assign meaning to them. According to the semiotic tradition, communication is constructed through signs that represent broader cultural values, beliefs, and associations.

In branding and visual communication, colours, typography, composition, imagery, and design style function as signs that communicate specific meanings. Therefore, a brand can shape audience perceptions not only through explicit messages but also through symbolic visual codes.

For this analysis, Semiotic Theory serves as a lens for examining how Solutions constructs meanings such as expertise, innovation, and professionalism through its visual communication.

post

SOCIO-CULTURAL THEORY The socio-cultural tradition understands communication as a process through which social reality is created and reproduced. Meaning emerges through shared cultural practices, social interactions, and collective understandings rather than through individual messages alone. Communication therefore contributes to the formation of identities, norms, and communities.

For this analysis, Socio-Cultural Theory is used to investigate how Solutions contributes to the construction of professional design culture and how its communication shapes perceptions of contemporary communication design. ANALYSIS: SEMIOTIC THEORY

Semiotic Analysis of Solutions 1.Visual Minimalism as a Sign of Expertise

post

Solutions showing consistent use of minimal layouts, generous white space, restrained colour palettes, and structured typography.

Using Semiotic Theory, these design choices can be interpreted as symbolic signs rather than purely aesthetic decisions. The absence of aggressive promotional elements, such as discount messages, sales language, or strong calls-to-action, communicates a different set of meanings. The visual language suggests professionalism, confidence, and intellectual authority.

Rather than explicitly stating that it is an expert design studio, Solutions communicates expertise indirectly through visual codes. The audience interprets minimalism as a marker of sophistication and strategic thinking. In semiotic terms, the visual style functions as a signifier, while concepts such as professionalism and credibility become the signified meanings.

2.Projects as Symbolic Representations of Knowledge

Many Solutions posts present design processes and conceptual thinking rather than only final visual outcomes. From a semiotic perspective, these materials act as symbols of analytical expertise and intellectual labour.

The communication strategy shifts attention away from commercial outcomes and toward knowledge production. As a result, the audience is encouraged to interpret the brand not as a service provider but as a creator of ideas and strategic solutions.

This symbolic positioning strengthens the perception of Solutions as a thought leader within the field of communication design.

Socio-Cultural Analysis of Solutions 1.Constructing Professional Design Culture

post

From a socio-cultural perspective, Solutions does more than showcase its work. The brand actively promotes a particular understanding of what communication design should be.

The content repeatedly highlights values such as: | research-driven design; | conceptual thinking; | interdisciplinary practice; | cultural awareness.

By consistently presenting these values, Solutions contributes to the construction of professional norms within the design community.

2.Shaping Professional Identity

Socio-Cultural Theory argues that communication plays a role in shaping individual and collective identities. Through its communication, Solutions presents a model of the contemporary communication designer as a strategic and intellectually engaged professional rather than merely a visual creator.

Followers who regularly engage with the brand are exposed to a specific vision of professional success. The communication therefore functions as a form of professional socialization, reinforcing particular expectations about the skills, values, and knowledge required in the field.

The brand’s communication continuously presents examples of what it considers high-quality communication design. Through repeated exposure, audiences develop shared expectations about aesthetic quality, innovation, and professionalism.

According to Socio-Cultural Theory, this process contributes to the reproduction of cultural norms. Solutions does not simply participate in existing design culture; it actively shapes perceptions of what constitutes contemporary and successful design practice.

3.Consistency as a Meaning-Making System

post

The repeated use of similar visual principles creates a coherent system of signs across the account. Semiotic Theory suggests that meaning emerges not from isolated messages but from recurring symbolic patterns.

Through repetition, Solutions consistently associates itself with innovation, critical thinking, and contemporary design culture. Over time, these associations become part of the audience’s understanding of the brand.

CONCLUSION

Original size 2480x1750

Solutions uses a strategic communication platform for constructing meanings and shaping cultural perceptions. Through its visual language, the brand communicates expertise, creativity, and a strong conceptual approach to design, allowing audiences to interpret these values through symbolic visual cues. At the same time, Solutions contributes to the development of contemporary design culture by promoting ideas such as experimentation, research, and interdisciplinary thinking.

Viewed through Semiotic Theory and Socio-Cultural Theory, the brand’s communication can be understood as a process of both creating meaning and shaping cultural expectations. As a result, Solutions positions itself not only as a design brand but also as a cultural platform that influences how audiences perceive creativity, professional identity, and contemporary design practice.
