Portfolio of Klochko Margo
Selected Works // 2023–2026

post

My name is Margarita «Margo» Klochko, and I am a final-year Environmental and Interior Design student at HSE University in Saint Petersburg, graduating in 2027.What have I done so far?— Presented my art object «Pull Yourself Together» («Соберись») at the international «Night of Light» («Ночь Света») festival in Gatchina.— Worked on a student project in collaboration with PERMM, the Perm Museum of Contemporary Art.— Studied at HSE University’s Moscow campus for a year and a half as part of the university’s inter-campus mobility programme.— Completed an internship at CORE architecture studio.— Participated in a summer school organised by NOWADAYS architecture studio in Shuvalovo-Ozerki.— I also designed a custom typeface, which is used throughout this project, including in its visual identity.Tools I work with: Rhino, SketchUp, Revit, 3ds Max, and Adobe Creative Cloud. And a little beyond the projects.I start every project with music. Each project in this portfolio is accompanied by a track I listened to while working on it. That reference offers a glimpse into the cultural context behind my work — and a little introduction to me beyond my professional practice. Think of them as conversation starters for our next coffee break.

The portfolio is structured in two parts. The first brings together projects directly related to my architectural practice, from landscape and public space design to larger architectural interventions. The second presents two more experimental projects focused on furniture and interior object design.

«Enriched Coal» — Exhibition Project at the Krasnoye Znamya Factory Building

"Born Slippy (Nuxx)" by Underworld
5 мин

How can the visual language of an industrial building become part of an exhibition dedicated to an artist who sought to eliminate everything but pure art?Designed for the Krasnoye Znamya Factory in Saint Petersburg, the exhibition space and temporary façade interventions for the Ed Reinhardt Museum bring together the factory’s monumental architecture and Reinhardt’s austere, monochromatic works. The exhibition becomes a process of artistic purification: visitors move through the evolution of Reinhardt’s visual language as if travelling along a production line, where meaning, texture and colour are gradually stripped away. The result is a train carrying «enriched coal» — a metaphor for the transformation of industrial matter into artistic essence.Project profile

Drama Theatre Design Project for the City of Lappeenranta (Finland)

“Pilke Silmäkulmassa” by Klamidiya
2 мин

How can a contemporary theatre become both a cultural landmark and a new way of experiencing a familiar landscape?Designed for Lappeenranta, Finland, this three-storey drama theatre draws on Alvar Aalto’s approach to form, integrating the building into the surrounding terrain and connecting its public spaces with the hillside. The theatre becomes a lens through which the familiar is transformed into a stage: a transparent small auditorium blurs the boundary between performance and landscape, turning the everyday Finnish scenery into an ever-changing theatrical backdrop.Project profile

«Self-Build» — Revitalization of the Kirov-named Meat Processing Plant

"Heroes" by David Bowie
4 мин

How can an abandoned industrial site become a creative space for young people rather than a place they are discouraged from entering?«Self-Build» proposes a new use for the former Kirov Meat Processing Plant in Saint Petersburg, a heritage site where demolition is not an option. Instead of treating the construction waste scattered across the site as a problem to be erased, the project turns it into a resource for spontaneous, mentor-guided building. Here, chaos becomes a creative tool: young visitors are invited to transform discarded materials into their own structures, turning unsupervised exploration into a collective act of making. Even the project’s architectural form emerged from this principle, developed through the chance arrangement of coffee stirrers as a model for the scattered debris.Project profile

«To Earthlings» — Courtyard Landscape Design Project for the «Paradny Ensemble» Residential Complex by Setl Group

"Veridis Quo" by Daft Punk
6 мин

What if the landscape of a residential complex could tell the story of an extraterrestrial civilisation that once crashed on Earth?Developed as part of a team for a real-world Setl Group design competition, «To Earthlings» proposes a courtyard landscape design for the Paradny Ensemble residential complex in Saint Petersburg. Inspired by the nearby Pulkovo Observatory and Pulkovo Meridian, the project builds an imaginary mythology around an alien crash: large-scale architectural forms become fragments of a spacecraft, while smaller elements evoke abandoned shelters, dormant seeds and discarded spacesuits. The landscape becomes an archaeological site for a fictional past, inviting residents to explore the territory as a trail of clues and reconstruct a story that never happened — yet gives the place a world of its own.The project also involved collaboration with Urban Puzzle, who provided lighting fixture models. And with my dear colleagues: Ivan Firsov and Mariya «Marfa» Karpova.Project profile

«Sputnik» — Floor Lamp Design Project

"Under Your Spell" by Desire
5 мин

Can an everyday object offer a sense of companionship without demanding attention in return?«Sputnik» is a floor lamp inspired by the form of artificial Earth satellites and the experience of personal loss. Designed for those who may find it easier to connect with objects than with people, it invites interaction through a simple gesture: raising or lowering its upper section to adjust the light intensity. The lamp becomes a quiet companion — present when needed, distant when not, offering a small, tactile ritual of connection without the pressure of constant contact. The project includes a functional concept, technical diagrams and a 3D model prepared for prototype production.Project profile
