Director Stanley Kubrick, England/USA, 1971. Malcolm McDowell, Patrick Maggie, Warren Clarke, and others.
The novel of the famous British writer Anthony Burgess was released in 1982. In it, the author, using distorted Russian as the jargon of heroes, draws a grim picture of the near future, built on instincts, violence and coercion, and raises questions about freedom of choice and the nature of good and evil. In 2005, «The Orange» was listed by Time magazine as one of the top 100 English-language novels published since 1923.

Despite this, «The Orange Plant» was the most profitable film by Warner Brothers at the time; in France it became the most cashier film in 1972. Moreover, he was nominated for the Oscar Award in four categories. However, the image’s reputation is still mixed: many view «Orange Water» not so much as an antitopic work in the spirit of George Orwell as a decadant-nihilistic form of violence. And the author of the novel himself was contradictory to the screen, despite his sympathy for the director.
Today, Stanley Kubrick’s film is certainly a cult film: in addition to its high reputation in both cultural and counter-cultural environments, the film has been placed on a variety of lists, «Stay the Best Films of All Time», and was included in the National Film Registry of the United States in 2020.
